Legacy System Support

Still on older line-of-business software? I keep it alive and safe while you plan ahead.

Plenty of good businesses run on software that is a decade old because it works and replacing it is expensive and disruptive. That does not mean it has to be a security liability.

What I do

I keep older line-of-business systems running and protected - isolated, hardened, and backed up - while we plan the eventual move on a timeline that fits your budget instead of a vendor’s deadline. No pressure to rip and replace before you are ready.

Keeping old software safe, not just alive

The real danger with aging systems is not that they stop working - it is that they stop getting security updates while still holding your data. I reduce that exposure by isolating legacy machines from the rest of the network, locking down how they connect, and putting monitoring and backups around them. The software keeps doing its job without becoming the soft spot an attacker walks through.

Planning the move on your terms

Eventually most legacy systems do need to be replaced, but that should be a decision you make, not a crisis forced by a failure or a vendor pulling support. I map out a realistic migration path - what moves first, what it depends on, and what it costs - so you can budget and schedule it around your business instead of scrambling.

Protecting the knowledge, not just the system

Often the biggest risk is not the software at all - it is that only one person knows how it works, and that knowledge leaves when they do. I document how your legacy systems are set up, how they connect, and how to keep them running, so the how-it-works does not walk out the door with a retirement or a resignation.
